AgBio NZ Cluster
“A cluster is a group of companies within a particular industry who, though they may compete with each other, also work together co-operatively to gain greater business advantage”.
The AgBio NZ Cluster comprises over 90 companies operating in the pastoral dairy and livestock industry. These companies are commercially driven with expertise and products applicable from R&D through to the production and processing ends of the value chain.
AgBio NZ is a collaborative group which encourages member companies to work together and deliver complete solutions to the dairy and livestock industries.
Early activities include the highly successful Walton Dairy Farm IFMS project, followed by a similar project on Sheep and Beef farms. These demonstration farms showcased the use of new farm technologies and proved the productivity increases and economic benefit deriving from their use. Importantly, they also demonstrated that cluster partnerships deliver added value to the industry.
The “Introduction to Traceability – Cornerstone to On-Farm Value” Fieldays 2006 initiative linked 14 companies in 15 locations in a collaborative effort that focused on raising awareness in the farming community of the benefits and ease of use of EID (electronic identification tagging) technologies.
A recent and exciting cluster development is the formation of NZ Dairy Solutionz – a consortium that will undertake large scale agricultural developments offshore. NZ Dairy Solutionz acts as the honest broker delivering a ‘best of breed’ solution for corporate and industrial farm developments.
