SOFT LANDING AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT FOR US TECH COMPANY
When Juan Moreno visited NZ in 2009, he saw a solid market opportunity. Juan is a Principal of Sexing Technologies, a US based lab with exclusive rights to commercially offer gender sorted or ‘sexed’ semen to livestock industries globally. This service was not available to NZ’s big genetics providers, who were excited at the prospect of an additional product line to offer their domestic and export markets.
Juan was concerned about the complexities and costs of setting up a NZ lab operation here. He was establishing a start-up company, but from thousands of miles away. Enter Waikato Innovation Park who, with support from AgResearch, took responsibility for the logistical, regulatory and financial establishment of Sexing Technologies (NZ) Ltd.
We handled the legal establishment, dealt with the importation of equipment and supplies, sorted out regulatory approvals for laboratory compliance, recruited staff, and set up a financial and payroll management system. And we continue to provide this operational support on an ongoing basis.
